The Leighton Aspell Fan Club's Adopted Retired Racehorse SEEK THE FAITH is stable at Greatwood who retrain, rehome and care for retired racehorse.
They were asked to step in and help SEEK THE FAITH because the owner was elderly and in care, and was not in a position to look after him. SEEK THE FAITH arrived at Greatwood early in 2009 and has settled in well. He is enjoying his retirement with the other old boy in the yard.
To give a little back for the pleasure these old timers have given us in the past, The Leighton Aspell Fan Club thought it a good idea to Adopt a horse at Greatwood.
We only hope that our little bit of support helps SEEK THE FAITH have a very happy and relax retirement in his old age:
No doubt SEEK THE FAITH is the envy of the yard now he has joined the Leighton Aspell Fan Club:

GREATWOOD:
Founded in 1990 Greatwood is a charity that rescues rehabilitates and rehomes ex-Racehorses.
They are great supporters of horse racing and encourage all others that love the sport to help them to succeed in their work.
The majority of owners and trainers will do their best to ensure that their horses go on to good homes following their retirement from racing - with many going on successfully to compete in other equestrian disiplines.

How ever, many of the horses that come to Geatwood are in an extremely vulnerable state both mentally and physically. Frequenty they see horses that have been sold on a number of times after they have left the racing community, to people inable to cope with the demands of a Thoroughbred horse that has been bred and trained to race.

RESCUE & REHABILITATION:
A significant number of racehorses end up in inexperienced hands following thier retirement from racing - the beginning of a downward spiral. Greatwood are their safety net:

RETRAINING & REHOMING:
After a period of rehabilitation each horse is carefully assessed as to its natural aptitude and it is then retrained accordingly. Great care is taken to team the right horse with the right person.

CARE FOR LIFE:
Greatwood retains ownership of every horse which goes to its new home on permanent loan and they undertake regular welfare checks throughout its life:

FACTS & FIGURES:
90 horses are seen by the charity every year.
Over 70% of the horses they see at Greatwood are flat horses:
They have the capacity for 35 horses throughout the winter and up to 50 through the summer.
